Time To Getaway!

I've posted a few times this summer about trying to find time for a quick getaway.  We aren't taking any kind of vacation time this summer and hadn't really planned on any sort of time away from home.

But sometimes, a getaway is exactly what is needed.

We decided on Fort Wayne.  It's about a 2 hour drive from Indianapolis and we loved our visit there a couple of years ago.  They have a fantastic Zoo that we didn't explore all of last time.  There is a Farmer's Market I'm eager to check out (I love to visit other markets!).  There is a diner near our hotel that I'm drooling over.  There is a huge festival (with fireworks Saturday night) going on.  There is a Botanical Garden we missed last time.  And if we can squeeze in a visit to Science Central, we'll do that as well.

I'm really excited to visit the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory.   I think my kids will really enjoy the gardens but also be entertained by Woody the Talking Tree and do some exploring in the Discovery Center.  I am eager to take my camera and let my shutterbug loose!!

There is a gorgeous carousel at Glenbrook Square.  I'm not much for shopping but our kids do enjoy Build-A-Bear so it might make for a fun memory and souvenir!

The hotel has a pool- always an important part of a getaway!  And it looks like we are right next door to the Firefighter Museum we discovered in 2010 and really enjoyed.  I'm excited to be staying downtown this time and being within walking distance to plenty of restaurants and things we want to enjoy.  I'm intrigued by a place called The Dash In.

Most of all, I am looking forward to not having commitments and responsibilities beyond having fun and adventures with my husband and my kids.

Our family has been provided with some of the amenities of this getaway by the CVB of Fort Wayne.  However, we were considering a weekend trip there even without their offer!
