Our copy room. Mailboxes, copier, printer, scanner. Supplies, paper, envelopes. A place where you bump into your co-workers and office mates each morning and stop to chat or exchange pleasantries.
Even the bathroom has been the same all these years. One for the men, one for the women, single user bathrooms.
That corporate end of the building started changing when my company was purchased by 3M. All those VP's and higher ups on Corporate Row moved on to "greener" pastures. New faces, shuffled people. We were always somewhat protected from all that went on at that end because we had manufacturing between us and them.
And now we are becoming them.
Some people have been moved to a different building. Some are moving into smaller work spaces. Some are moving into shared workspaces. I am very fortunate to be moving into an office that is about the same size as my current space. I will be directly across from the office that made up Corporate Row. I will be much closer to my boss and her boss than I currently am. But I will still have an office, a door, a lock. Most importantly, I still have a job.
We are in the process of shutting down one of our facilities in Massachusetts. I don't know a lot of the details on that process. But I do know that they are moving one of the production lines to Indianapolis. This end of the building will be gutted this Friday and our office area will be converted to a production area. It means job growth for us- we will be hiring 40-50 new employees.
I'll share my new office space once everything is done. But the past few weeks and all of this week and the weeks ahead are all about going with the flow, moving fluidly with change.

you are too right. change is the only constant. and the older i get, the less i like it! congrats to you on growing with the flow
Yep, gotta love change! I am glad that your job is still there! My job has restructured. I have taken over the duties of one of my coworkers who has gone to a new position. Lots less free time at work, but I am learning every day.
having work is important! ya gotta have someplace to go to get a time out from the kids :)
Getting a new office space is exciting! It's a time to reorganize and make changes. Target sells USB powered Christmas lights! Decorate!
I can't believe that antiquated monitor you have that takes up half your desk. Ugh.
I am supposed to be getting a new computer sometime after the move so I am hopeful that my new HP PC will include an HP monitor so that when my Dell PC goes away, the behemoth Dell monitor goes away too!
I'm sure you'll get a new flatscreen monitor; I doubt they can find a tubey one anymore!
I've always been aware of coworkers around me who are resistant to change just b/c it's change (teachers were the worst!). But I hope that, no matter how old I get, I'll be open to change, at least at work.
It does sound exciting; glad you still get an office! Will you have a window?? That's all I wish for in my cubicle...
We're going to be moving to a brand new building next year, so I know what you mean about changes and all that. It's kind of nice but chaotic and crazy.
And yes, we are blessed to still be employed!
No window... but I will be across from an office that has a wall of windows so I will at least be getting natural light of some sort!
I can only bet you felt quite a sense of apprehensiveness as you wondered if you wouldn't be included in the change! Glad you're not going anywhere!
Go with the flow, Baby! I hope it is a smooth transition for you.
