Today is Go Red for Women Day- wear red in support of improving heart health in women.
What choices do you make to keep your heart healthy? Here's some of the basic tips (but I'm betting you already know that these are the keys to healthy living): - Quit Smoking! - Make Healthy Food Choices (focus on nutrition) - Check Your Cholesterol - Check Your Blood Pressure - Exercise, Maintain An Active Lifestyle
Have you seen this video? This young man, Zach Wahls, is a student at the University of Iowa and gave this beautiful speech to the Iowa House of Representatives this week. His speech might not have swayed enough of the law makers- but it deserves a listen and I think his words are pretty powerful. He's speaking from his heart.
I want new shoes. I want new running shoes. I want to go try the new Merrells Barefoot shoes. I've been reading reviews and all about the product and how they were designed and made and I'm hooked! Running is good for your heart!
A man at our gym had a heart scan done last year. Local heart hospitals in Indy tend to offer half price heart scans and he took advantage. And it saved his life. They found problems and were able to perform surgery before a heart attack ever happened. He is a healthy guy- he works out intensely daily, healthy diet. I suppose he was just genetically predisposed for it. Having that heart scan done made all the difference- for him and his heart.
We have no plans for this weekend! After our 2 days at home due to the ice storm, I'm looking forward to some time at home again. Did I mention that I ended up being insanely productive on those 2 locked in days? I still had a lot of down time but managed to completely clean out and scrub the fridge, clean out and reorganize my main kitchen cabinet, clean off the old changing table that has been holding living room junk and moving it to the kitchen where it will either be a shelf or might get transformed into an island, cleaned up the living and playroom (repeat that a few times), cooked actual meals for my family, and ended it all by painting my nails (I haven't had actual nail polish on my nails in years). Being home like that was good for my heart!

Well, I'm not a woman but can I participate too? I'm back on Weight Watchers so that will be good for my heart.
Of course, Garret!! I also want you to wear a low cut red top like me...
Good for you, enjoying your time off AND being so productive! The red top is really pretty.
Good for you to remember Go Red! Love the heartful frags.
I never thought about the heart scan thing too much- but that's wonderful that it helped him. I need to remember this.
Do you know what kind of heart scan that was? With all my predisposition in my family and my own numbers, I'd love to get one, too! (I'd even pay full price, if I could afford it...I mean, what's my life worth to me, right?)
I don't know the details, Flartus. But if you Google "Heart Scan" and your city, I bet you'll find something in your area. Some places here are $99 with a special in Feb of half off. The hospital system I use offers the scan for $50.
What a great post! I didn't even know today was wear red day.
I am proud to say I have never smoked...I'm sure my heart is happy about that! I try to eat healthy, lately I've been slacking in that department but as of today I'm buckling down.
