Health Care

Jeanne at The Raisin Chronicles posted this today and I had to share it. I had started out with the intention of sharing my favorite quote's from President Obama's speech to Congress last night. But as I went through his speech, I found that I pretty much wanted to copy and paste the entire thing. So follow the link I gave and go read it if you didn't watch it. Skip the analysts and media and responses and reporting. Just listen to or read the speech itself. You know what I would love to see? I want Sicko re-released. If only Michael Moore read my blog. The movie was a few years ahead of its time. What I remember most about it was that the reports were that "both sides of the aisle" were seeing the health care crisis differently. That it wasn't a Dem vs Repub issue. Were is that sense now? I'm one of the fortunate ones. We have employer provided options. Jeff has a good insurance plan, the kids and I are well covered under mine. If either of us lose a job, we can go on the other's insurance and still be covered. But I know a lot of people who aren't covered. People who own their own businesses- bakeries, cleaning companies, child care providers, preschools, and so on. People who were on a spouse's plan and the spouse lost their job and... no more insurance without extremely high costs. The stories out there are individual but they make up a larger picture and they are heart breaking. So I guess that's my 2 cents. I've not been following politics too closely lately simply because it wears me out. It's too focused on the back and forth and the vitriol and hatred and unbased, biased claims and fear mongering and so on. It's exhausting. And it's both sides. And it has to stop. Sometimes it feels like we are on the verge of another Civil War. And that won't help anyone.

I love that video Liz. I posted it on by FB page.

I'd love to see Sicko re-released as well. I don't think we would be where we are right now without it.

As an advocate of single-payer healthcare, I would have loved to see Obama go even farther than he did last night, but as a speech it was amazing. And as a politician he has always proven to be A LOT smarter than me. It's nice to have a president who seems to know what he's doing. =)

Wow, that video simultaneously brought chills to my arms and tears to my eyes. We can't afford to wait. We shouldn't have had to wait this long.

Thank you for posting this. I, too, get very frustrated with politics lately but this is one thing we all need to stand up for and scream: PUBLIC OPTION NOW!

The only reason I have health care right now is because my husband is in the military. Otherwise, I would not be covered due to a congenital heart defect that is considered a big fat pre-existing conditions. So let's hope that the public option gets approved soon because I will be losing my coverage in the next few months.

Thank you again for posting this.
