Now That He's Home

Now that he's home, I sleep better at night. Not just because I feel more secure but also because he holds me. Now that he's home, we had a date night. Dinner, drinks, dessert. Holding hands and getting caught up on the past week. Now that he's home, my kids are happier and I can visibly see that some stress has been lifted. Now that he's home, the dog is even appreciating that things are back to normal. Now that he's home, I can breath again. Now that he's home, I can tell the secret he made me keep! Jeff does the recorded sound effects for True Dungeon. He has a gift for voice talent and was the voice of the dragon, Smoak. He had to do a special, last minute recording for some special guests who went through the game- and was then asked to be their guide through the game! Pictured below, with the dragon, are cast members from The Guild- Wil Wheaton (Fawkes), Felicia Day (Codex), Sandeep Parikh (Zaboo), Jeff Lewis (Vork), and Robin Thorsen (Clara). The game takes a total of 2 hours to play- so Jeff hung out with these people for 2 hours. He played the part of a singing bard- and Felicia Day gave him the best compliment he could have gotten from her. That he was funny (which he is). Jeff was there to witness when Wil Wheaton slayed the dragon in some sort of epic dice rolling on a board move that no one else was able to do. Not being a gamer, I don't get it. But it was, by all accounts, EPIC. Here- this will make sense to you if you're a gamer, I suppose. It's basically a foreign language to me- from the True Dungeon fan page on Facebook: Just as the dragon was about to bake his entire party with a massive fire blast, Wil stepped up and made an INCREDIBLE token slide with his +2 Spear of Dragonslaying. He managed a one-in-a-million slide with his combat slider on ten feet long combat board, and the dragon was instantly killed! Correction: Jeff has asked that I modify my language a bit. Since I don't speak gamer, I'll just share his e-mail with you. Instead of: when Wil Wheaton slayed the dragon in some sort of epic dice rolling on a board move that no one else was able to do should be more like - when Wil Wheaton slayed the dragon in some sort of epic slider slide on a board that no one else was able to do Correction #2: (I'm finding it hilarious that my hubby is correcting my total lack of gaming knowledge) Per Jeff: I wasn’t their guide, I was in their party and played. The DM’s in the rooms are the “guides”. (Don't ask me what DM actually stands for. Dungeon Master? Dungaree Manager? District Mover? I dunno... but I know there is one in each of the "rooms" and they run the puzzle or fight or whatever is in that room. Of the dungeon.) Edited to add: Head over to Jeff's blog and you can hear the sound clips he did of the dragon's taunts that were created just for The Guild players (I may have helped spark his creative juices a smidge since I"m also a fan of The Guild).

Now that he's home, he can de-stress. It wasn't as much fun as previous years because he had to pick up a lot of unexpected (and rather surprising) slack. Now that he's home, I can call or text him at any time and know he's right there. I can look across the living room and smile at him. I can reach under the pillows and hold his hand at night. Now that he's home, life is back to normal. Life is good. Photobucket

Yay! for normality. :-)

Trying to bask in some kind of reflected glory here...it's not working. Lucky, lucky bastard.

It's a shame Jeff's enjoyment of GenCon was tainted by the stress thing. I hope the awesome outweighed the bad stuff on balance. It's hard work helping other people have fun!

Still jealous though :-)

The awesome definitely outweighed the stress. Having Felicia Day tell him he was funny... I think he's still over the moon on that one!!

Oh yeah, that one's going to have currency for years!

Did you change your blog recently or do I just always read it in my Google Reader? Anyways, I like your stamp/image.

I also love how excited you are about what he does, even if you don't quite have the lingo down. I couldn't really tell you what it is that my husband does either, at least not using correct terminology.

Very cool!!! I was a huge Star Trek TNG fan growing up, and my husband is the biggest gamer there is, so I understand all that gamer lingo. glad your hubs is home safe and sound! (and that he got an awesome experience w/ Wil Wheaton. :))

Very nice.
One of the kids in my GenParty was actually named for Wesley Crusher. That's pretty cool....

Cool to see you there--and glad that you remember faces much better than I do!!!

I'm not sure if I should be embarrassed or proud that I understand all the gamer terms...

I LOVE The Guild and met Felicia and Robin at a DVD signing event recently. They are super nice girls. I'm glad Jeff got to spend some time with the cast. I've heard they're all a lot of fun.

I'm also glad for you that you get your hubby and your rest back!
