The Talent Show

Last night at church, we had a talent show. This is an event we have attended for fun before. This is a chance for the memers of the church to have some fun and laugh and clap and let loose. It isn't a full on production, there aren't any auditions or hard core requirements. You just have to be willing to get up and showcase something about yourself.

We had a little girl who sang "Tomorrow" from Annie in full costume (including the wig). She's one of my choir kids and she did fantastic. 2 sisters sang along to some pop number I'd never heard before- but their dad stole the show as their background dancer. We had some traditional visits- each year, our talent show is graced by "Sonny & Cher" and "Johnny Slick" and "The Three Legged Man." We had some actual talent- Brad Real. We had some teenage swing dancers with some fantastic stunts. A trombone and piano duet. Our pastors did a duet- Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better.

Edited to add: My friend, Victoria, left this comment on my Facebook page and I wanted to share it because it's so true. "Last night was one of many reasons why I so love my church... A place where little girls can hula hoop and sing for an adoring crowd..pastors can be goofy and hip hop is applauded.. .Love is an action.... I think we do it pretty well..."

Teagan has been planning her performance for a ocuple of weeks now. When she first caught on to the fact that there was going to be a talent show, she started planning out her hula hoop routine. I had absolutely nothing to do with any of it. She picked her music. She decided what tricks she was going to do and how she was going to enter.

And she totally rocked it. I had the most foolish grin on my face and tears in my eyes the entire time. I can't even find the words to tell you how proud Jeff and I are. She wasn't nervous in the slightest. She was eager and excited and had some serious fun.

And I might have had a little fun of my own...

Teagan is utterly adorable :-) And also damn good with that hoop, tell her I think she's awesome!

You, on the other hand, are a very scary lady and there's no way I'd be sending my kids to your lessons!

And just in case anyone is wondering if I've lost my mind, the serious version of that is - way to go Liz! You have quite the comic talent going there! :-)

Oh my gosh! This post had me smiling from beginning to end. First, that girl of yours has got the moves. Too adorable. Second, YOU! It's a side of you I've never seen before. Love this post and will be sharing it on the 4th Frog FB page.

I assume it was Jeff, but I'd hear "oh" when Teagan's hoop would fizzle. Dad was proud, you could hear it.

"You, on the other hand, are a very scary lady and there's no way I'd be sending my kids to your lessons! " LOL. I concur.

I think it is wonderful that Teagan felt comfortable enough that she wanted to share her talent. She really had some moves.

Oh Liz, those were awesome. Love Teagan's comfort and the great, supportive audience. And YOU! My goodness, take it on the road, honey! I noticed you had both the parents and the kids laughing. That's pretty impressive. (I wonder how many kids were thinking, I wish my mom were that cool and funny.)

Cute stuff, that Miss Teagan! She was workin' that hoop and you know what I thought was the best thing? When the hoop would hit the floor you could hear either you or Jeff so a little "ugh" but girl just didn't let it phase her! She just picked it up and came up shakin'!!! THAT speaks volumes to her self confidence! Way to go, Teagan!

Funny stuff there Miss Liz! That was great! If there was any wonder where Miss T gets her self confidence, there shouldn't be now! Her momma is showin' her right!
