Summer Camp

It's an exciting day for my family.  School is out and summer camp has begun!  Both kids are attending the YMCA summer day camp near our home.  We knew they were excited because they love going to the Y in general.  Teagan has loved her Y program for before and after school care.  We have been talking about swimming and nature walks and crafts and songs.  We had a special shopping trip just for lunch packing since both kids have to pack lunch and 2 snacks each day.  We have new camp bags and new water bottles and new bottles of sunscreen and new towels.

Zach woke up this morning, rolled out of bed, headed for the kitchen, and immediately started to pack his lunch in his new Spiderman lunch box.  At 6:oo in the morning.

Yes, I know Zach is wearing mismatched socks.  It's what he prefers.  Every day.  Which is awesome for us because it's way easier.

Even though I packed lunch for Teagan almost everyday this past school year, I still found that there was a sense of challenge to packing for a full day's worth of food.  At the Y school program, they provided breakfast and after school snacks.  YMCA summer day camps provide no food.  We have to pack 2 snacks and lunch.  I've never had to pack lunch for Zach.  His food is fully provided at his school.  I'm curious to see if we packed enough or too much food.  I'm curious to find out if Zach remembers what is best for snack and what is supposed to save for the afternoon (need to eat the cold stuff in the morning and at lunch and not save it for afternoon snack time).  Between both kids, we have an assortment of squeezable yogurt, squeezable applesauce, drinkable yogurt, craisins, raisins, apples, peanut butter crackers, fruit leather, string cheese, graham cracker bites.

I've got their schedules printed out- the Y sends out weekly communication from the camp directors and we have a pretty detailed schedule for each camp.  Teagan is doing cheer camp this week and Zach's theme is Dinosaurs.  They should be doing group play time right now... attendance... learning the rules... group time.  Soon, Zach will have his morning snack and Teagan will either be in her first cheer group or will be playing some Vacation themed games.  Jeff and I have been texting each other, curious about how the kids are doing in this new situation.

I've never been so eager for the end of the day.  I want to get the kids home, cleaned up, and hear EVERYTHING.  And then I wanna quit my job and go to camp, too.

My daughter works at a summer camp and they have the coolest field trips. Its not a bad job. She gets paid to go swimming, go to the movies, go to the zoo. Maybe one day your kids will want to work at the Y camp they went to. That's how she got her job and has had it for four summers.

That sounds like so much fun. I'm looking into summer camps for my kids for next summer. I hope I can find something that sounds this awesome.

They look so excited and ready for their new adventure. I noticed Zach's socks and I thought it was adorable! I had a feeling it was a choice and not an oversight.

I bet they'll have a blast.

Ana bought her lunch most of the year, but at the beginning of the year, I packed it for her. I also packed a snack. (The kinder lunch at school was at 10:35, so they needed an afternoon snack too!) When I did that, I put a sticker on the snack so she'd know to save it. That worked really well. Maybe you could do some sort of color-coded stickers for morning & afternoon snacks, if he has trouble remembering!

Am I the only one who noticed the pictures? "It's fun to stay at the Y M C A..." Great photo idea!
