Summer TV (It Sucks)

Jeff and I enjoy watching TV.  I know it isn't the best habit.  But too bad- we all have our vices.

This summer is proving to be painfully dull in the evenings as there just isn't much on.  And we even like some pretty vapid entertainment during the regular seasons.

The main highlight of our summer is The Glee Project.  We got hooked last year and are enjoying it again this summer.  I love the talent of these kids, but I also get fascinated with the process of honing these individuals into plausible characters.  It leaves me wondering what kind of story arc I would have on Glee.

We're watching The Glass House.  It's kinda like Big Brother but a little better so far.  I like that viewers and players can interact in a controlled way.  I like some of the players- Erica, Jeffrey, and Gene.  I like the social network aspect.

And that's really about it.

I've watched some episodes of Dance Mom but it's so crazy repetitious.  The girls see the pyramid, the moms bitch and complain, Abby yells, the girls perform, more yelling and sniping, the end.

I've been sometimes watching the new show Bunheads (ABC Family) but only online.  It isn't great but it's ok enough.

A new show starts tonight on TNT called Perception- it seems to be a mash up of Monk and Psych.  Might be worth checking out.

And Big Brother starts this week (July 12) so wahoo for that.  I really think I get sucked into these shows for the personalities and conflicts.  I know we lose so much due to editing- but it's still a fascinating type of game play.

We enjoy Wipeout.  Jeff has an insane laugh track for that show.  His laughter makes me laugh- even though the show doesn't really hold my attention.

Also starting up this week is a new improv show on ABC- Trust Us With Your Life.  I'm really excited for this one because it has some of my fave funny guys- Colin Mochrie, Wayne Brady, Brad Sherwood, Greg Proops and many more!

So I guess things will start picking up as we hit mid-summer.  Because if I had to endure another episode of The Choice or Take Me Out, I might go postal.  Have you seen these shows?  One is hosted by George Lopez (I really like him) and it's 30 women and a guy comes out, they show a video about him, he says stuff.  See something you don't like?  Turn your light off so you don't have a chance at a date with him.  The other is just like The Voice with the spinning chairs and all that- but it's male celebrities in the chairs and females vying for a date.  Interesting concept, horrible execution.

Teagan has taken a huge interest in Food Network.  Anytime she can find a way to convince us, she wants Food Network on.  She loves Chopped, Paula Deen, Cupcake Wars, and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.  She and Zach both love to talk about Guy Fieri and imagine up fantastic cupcakes they would create.

I also recently discovered a new network called GMC.  It's a Christian based network and they show Christian music videos sometimes. They make their own cheesy movies.  But best of all, they show some of my favorite old shows like 7th Heaven, Amen, 227, and Family Ties.

What are you watching this summer?

Lucky for us, we didn't have a lot of time to watch our favorite shows, so we are spending the summer getting caught up on Modern Family and The Office. Other than that, my boys love America's Got Talent and Wipeout. And I'm with Teagan: I love Food Network, especially Chopped and Iron Chef.

I have been enjoying America's Got Talent. I don't watch it religiously but it's a good show that you can drop in at any given time to watch and be entertained for awhile. I've tried to watch The Glass House but couldn't stand it...I will probably give Big Brother a shot when it starts up. And I've been watching The Bachelorette. Trash tv at its finest, right there. Other than that, I/we really haven't been watching too much. Oh, I recently started watching The Talk on CBS at 2:00 in the afternoons, and I really like that show. Much better than The View!

I tried The Talk when it first started (watched it online) and didn't get into it. But I don't really get into any daytime TV since I'm not home! :)

I tried an episode of the Bachelorette online yesterday and it just doesn't do it for me.

I did catch part of a new show on ABC Family that premiered last night- Beverly Hills Nannies. That might be entertaining...

So You Think You Can Dance. Summer's best tv show.

Summers can be hard at our house because neither of us want anything to do with the competition/reality programs. But, I am a HUGE fan of just about everything on the USA Network (especially White Collar), and summer is prime viewing time for them. And, thanks for reminding me about Perception. I'd set it up for the DVR from the ads, then completely forgotten about it. Probably won't see it tonight, but maybe something to do tomorrow.

You're so right about summer TV!! I'm looking forward to next Thursday when Project Runway comes back! Perception looks good, but I missed the first episode and I guess I'll have to catch up by On Demand!
