Shoes I Won't Wear

A while back, I posted about some fun I had with shoes at Target. Specifically, with shoes I would never buy and never wear. I'm a big fan of comfortable shoes. And as I've become more and more of a minimalist runner, I want my everyday wear shoes to be as flat as possible as I really notice heel rise and sole padding more than ever. But it is still fun to try on some of the insane shoes out there. And recently, Target had an entire aisle of crazy shoes to try on- so the kids and I had some fun! I call these drag queen shoes. Lift under the toes, insanely high heel, and the were glittery and gold. My feet hated them.

The snake charmers- threatening to snakes and to feet everywhere!

Teagan got in on the action this time- she started with a pair of "sensible" shiny beige heels.

But she quickly moved on to shoes that were far more... eye catching.

The gold ones seemed like the kind of crazy shoes I was aiming to try on...

One of the aspects of fashion that I really can't comprehend is that these shoes are downright painful to wear and sometimes painful to just put on! I sat and struggled with these last ones for a while before finally just giving up on them. I also found that with these fashionable shoes, I have to go for a shoes size almost 2 sizes bigger than I normally wear just to get my foot contorted into them.

Was all that struggle worth it?

But the fashion trend I've been most baffled by recently... peep toe boots. I also don't get the flip flop heel boots that come out in the summertime. I'm going to stick with my unfashionable, totally comfortable shoes. Just trying them on wore me out! Photobucket

I'm the same way. I can't stand uncomfortable shoes, and I don't understand most of the foot fashions out there. When I do wear a dressier shoe, I definitely prefer flats.

Target's shoes are cheaply made--that's why they're so uncomfy. I hate to pay a lot for shoes, but my hubs is an if-it's-not-real-leather-don't-buy-it kind of guy. It's gotten me used to comfy shoes---even cute heeled ones that are comfy! Although the shoes I ballroom dance in (for now) are from Target, I think, and they're adequately comfy. For not more than an hour. :)

Women just get used to the heels; I've known some that don't feel comfortable in flat shoes!

I remember being amazed at the subway controleuses in the Paris metro system...they would spend hours every day climbing up and down stairs, boarding and getting off the cars as they checked tickets. And of course they wore heels--high ones, too, not those sensible pumps American women tend to wear. I still have no idea how they did it without tears!

I am such a comfy shoe girl myself. I stopped wearing heals a few year back and have had grateful feet ever since. I do still admire the lovely shoes on my friends. Janae

I concluded long ago that fashion and common sense never mix. Those fake snake shoes look nice.

I'm so not big on uncomfy shoes.

I try to live in flip flops for as much of the year as I can!

I am all for comfy, even minimalist, shoes (my new "kigo shel's" are on the way!). But I have never understood how people can call flip-flops shoes, let alone call them comfortable!! Unless I clinch my feet in an awful, arch cramping, toe disfiguring way I can't get them to stay on for more than two agonizing steps....at which point one will slip sideways and attempt to rip my toes off!!
I will be sooo glad when THAT fad is over!

I'm a ballet flat queen! I used to wear TONS of heels, but kids killed that obsession.

And yeah, shoes are actually one thing I try to actually buy quality. Target is not that.

The shoe fabrication certainly has a lot to do with it, but some women--myself included--just love a great pair or 50 of heels. After wearing them for so many years, it honestly takes a while to get adjusted to wearing flats. There are many women who find them comfortable. It's a confidence booster to those of us who are 5 feet tall, too....

I have the same crappy pair of flip flops that I've been wearing for 8 years and running. I even wore them with my fancy dresses at the BlogHer parties last year.

HaHA!! I loved this. In high school, I used to buy shoes that were fashionable and trendy--wedge heels and that sort of thing. I'd wear them to school, suffer through the day looking contemporary and chic, and then limp home wondering why I subjected myself to such discomfort.

But then, Cybil Shepherd wore her red Reebox to the Oscars and that was the green light to wear my sneakers anywhere and everywhere. :-) A footwear revolution!!!

I loved the snake ones. Comfort over fashion for sure!

I'll admit I love senseless shoes. But I only find ones that I can put on without a) falling over and b) contemplating the need to remove my toes to make them fit.

I really don't get the peep toe boots. They're stupid.
