Going Dark

Do you ever think about taking a break?

When you feel yourself censoring what you want to write because of how it might come across... when you struggle to find time to write and throw something out there that doesn't mean much... when you don't have the time to go and visit the blogs you love to visit... when you don't give good comment love...

I think it's time for a short blog-cation.  My intention is just to take the holiday weekend off.  My hope is that I'll be missed and that I'll want to be back next week.

Kinda scared to post this.

Been there! I came out of it by starting a completely different blog and NOT having it fed into Facebook ;) I don't have to censor anymore and that is such a blessing!

Any blogger knows exactly how you feel. I've been struggling lately too. Sometimes blogging feels like a chore. Sometimes it's fun. It's a mix of emotions really. Take all the time you need, 3 days is all, and come back soon. Then you can blog about how you missed me the most.

I've been really struggling lately as well. Other than my six word Saturday posts, I'm not putting up much of anything. For a bit, it frustrated me. And then I realized that my blog is a place for me to say the things I want to say, not a place that requires me to say things when I'm not in the mood for it and not a place where I should feel pressured to entertain others.

Enjoy your holiday weekend with your wonderful family. Blogs are lovely things to be enjoyed - not another obligation.

I'm not sure if you are censoring to protect identities, or if you are censoring because you don't want to offend. Perhaps it's the way I write in that I tend to censor to begin with. I refer to people not normally by name, but by how I know them. I usually keep things clean and don't swear— not because I'm clean cut, but because it just doesn't fit my style of writing.

I'm sure many will miss you, but because it is a holiday weekend, may not get round to missing you until you're back.

For a few months, I've been blogging way less frequently than I had been. It was really a very good, healthy, happy change for me.

Suddenly, this week I find myself posting daily again. The inspiration seems to be back.

I know I talk about "Blogging with Discipline," and there was a time when finding a way to post daily was a good idea for me. But that time passed, and for now, following the inspiration works better for me.

I took a break, too, Liz - from the blog and from IMLM, if you recall. It was really refreshing. I feel renewed creatively and feel totally kick-a$$ now. :) Go for it, though to answer your fear, you will be missed.

Oh my gosh, I was thinking I need the same thing. Go dark and enjoy. Maybe we'll both come back much brighter.

I had to do it, too. There were a bunch of things I wanted to write about, but I couldn't bring myself to write anything. There were tons of unread blogs, but I couldn't bring myself to read.

Taking a few days (or even a week) off is good for you once in awhile. I promise, your readers aren't going to vanish unless you disappear for months.

I think we all need a break from time to time. I hope you enjoy yours and come back refreshed!

I've been going through this myself, although since I've had more time this summer I've definitely gotten some of my mojo back.

I think that no one really cares if we take a break. In fact, I think they are happy they will have a few less posts in their readers that week. Of course, I love you, and I look forward to hearing from you, but it's like real-life--I don't need to hear from my friends and family members every single day to feel connected to them. I hope your break was nice :)

How did you time off line go?

Kahuna, It was good. I'm still not back full force- just when I know I have something I want to share. I've been struck by a summer cold/cinus thing and I know that's keeping me lying low a bit, still.

Okay, so here I am sitting down to read two (no, three) weeks worth of back-blog reading and you're taking a BREAK??? ;-) Enjoy. Or...hope you enjoyed (if it's over...)
