The Love Dare
So there's this movie and this book... and I've wanted to not be interested. I've wanted to not see it. I've wanted to not think it has any merit.
Dammit.
Fireproof.
I'll be the first to admit that I tend to automatically reject Christian entertainment. I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe the cheese factor that usually lends itself is my issue. Maybe I feel like it's too "Bible beating" for my preferences.
There is Christian music that I love. There are Christian comedians I've enjoyed.
If I can count Jesus Christ Superstar as a favorite movie and musical... then I've got that covered.
The premise of Fireproof captured my attention. "Firefighter" has that cheese factor and makes it feel a little heavy handed in the obviousness. But... something was there.
Kirk Cameron, who I was madly in love with as a teen, stars in the movie. He faded from the radar a long time ago... but this is bringing him back a little.
I heard people starting talking about "The Love Dare." It is apparently a thing from the movie. OK. Hadn't planned to see the movie, might see it someday but...
I was at Target and the book "The Love Dare" was sitting there, calling to me. I picked it up and started to thumb through it. It's a 40 day challenge to do something specific, to reflect on something specific in regards to your relationship each day.
I bought it.
And I'm going to do it. I still feel hesitant about it. My marriage isn't in trouble or weak... but from the scanning I did, the suggestions seem to be good ones. And a lot could apply to my relationship with my kids or friends or other family members, too.
Today is Day One. Anyone care to join me?

Hmmmmm...this sounds intriguing Liz...I think I may have to check it out.
I'm going to share an interesting fact about Kirk Cameron and his lovely wife Chelsey (as I am a celebrity maniac) - the reason he faded into obscurity is because he (and she) refused to accept any roles that would involve kissing a woman other than his wife. Same for her. He felt their marriage vows and fidelity extended into their acting careers as well and refused to cross the line that all other actors do.
So...as a actress who has strong marriage and religious beliefs yourself, what are your thoughts on this?

Good read in the article above.
I really respect Kirk Cameron and his decisions. It works for them.
I have stage kissed as a married woman- kissing someone who wasn't my husband.
It didn't bother either of us because it wasn't REAL kissing. The act is just an act. There was no emotion, no connection behind it. Which is the challenge for many actors- keeping that distinction but still selling the emotion to the audience.
Of course, since we are both on hiatus from theatre for the time being... I guess there isn't anything to be concerned with right now anyway!
A little trivia for you...
Fireproof is acutally the sequel to "Facing The Giants" which had limited domestic distribution in 2007 (only 62 theaters I think) by Sony Pictures. FTG was an amateur film project written, produced, directed, acted, filmed, and edited exclusively by the members of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, GA. Although not a professional movie, it caught on became newsworthy, and was an instant success. It made a LOT of money for Sherwood Baptist Church.
The reason I know all this is because one of the main characters - Larry Childers (the guy in the wheelchair) was played by Steve Williams, the brother in law of my dear friend. I even had the pleasure of seeing FTG in the theater with her.
Who cares, I know, but it was kind of like a brush with fame for me. So I thought I'd mention it.
Liz, I have to tell you that I love your picture on today's post! That's all. I'm just saying...
Cool, Alix!! I've seen some info on FTG... didn't think it was a sequel, per se... but I'm interested in seeing it sometime. A brush with fame, indeed!
Thanks, Joanie! I like it, too!! I got a new sweater on clearance at Target and it looked great and made me feel great and... Great!!
@Alix -- Thanks for the tip about "Facing the Giants." As for "Fireproof," I've been thinking about buying it and using it for our small church group (4 married couples).
Amy, my church is doing a weekly group on Fireproof. I don't know the specifics but I assume they got the couples kit from the website and are using The Love Dare as well.
I would like to know more, so keep posting :)
