Sleep Patterns

Zach has stuck with this sudden new schedule all week. You wanna know what's funny? I'm more tired than ever. For more than 3 years, I've not slept more than 3 hours at a stretch. My body adjusted to it. My baby slept by my side, nursed as needed. My body adjusted to sleeping and dozing and waking and dozing and sleeping. Now we are on Night Four of the new schedule. Zach went to bed around 8:30. Woke up at midnight. Nursed on both sides each time. Woke up at 6 this morning. I've had a good stretch of 5 hours each night of potentially uninterrupted sleep. And I'm so tired!! It's like my body is saying "You tease! If you're going to give me 5 hours of sleep, why not go ahead with another 3 or 4??" Isn't it strange how our bodies work? I've dreamed and dreamed of sleeping more than 4 hours at a time. And now the night has arrived... and I need time to adjust to it? It really makes me wonder what would happen if I were to be able to go to bed and sleep with NO interruptions, NO alarm, NO obligations. Would I ever wake up?

Night Three

I promise I won't be giving you daily updates forever and ever... I am just so relieved that we have slipped into this new way of doing things so easily. He has transitioned away from co-sleeping, away from night nursing, and sleeping in a big bed instead of a crib all at once and is doing so amazingly well!! Last night was actually BETTER. He fell asleep right after nursing at bedtime (rather than fighting sleep for 45 minutes). Didn't wake again until 1:15. Nursed on both sides and went right back to sleep. I was back in my own bed at 1:30 and didn't wake again until 6!! HOORAY FOR SLEEP!

Night Two

An almost exact repeat of Night One! The cutest part is how cute he is when he wakes in the morning... he's so proud of himself, waking up in his big boy bed!!

Night One

I hadn't planned to start last night because Zach has this cold. But then bedtime was a disaster. He wouldn't go to sleep. He usually falls right to sleep after nursing. We nurse, we rock, I maybe sing. But last night, he got this burst of energy and wouldn't settle down. He fought and fought and fought for nearly 2 hours.

He finally fell asleep sometime after 8:30. Jeff and I kept switching off and he eventually fell asleep on Jeff's shoulder.

He doesn't wake to nurse until 12:15. Everyone woke up then- Teagan had a bad dream and woke up crying (but stayed asleep). I got her settled and peeked in his room... he was awake. We nurse. He doesn't o back to sleep. 45 minutes go by before he falls asleep completely.

And now it is 6 a.m. And he is asleep in his own bed. Hasn't been awake since 1 a.m.
