BTW Blog Stuff

I added a little section off to the side there... about giveaways. When one of the blogs that I follow is doing a giveaway, instead of doing a post that will just get lost down the page, I'll add a link to that section over there on the right. *** I've been wondering... who are the really popular bloggers? And how do you know if someone is popular? Cake Wrecks- wildfire. Thousands of readers. Hilarious blog. When that day's cake wreck goes up around 9:30 a.m. EST, the comments pour in. I can only dream of a day that I would have so many comments on a post! And others... but I'd love to know more about the bloggers who have "made it big" and make money and have wild success and fame. Like Pioneer Woman. *** Like the connections made and strength built between Braja and Vodka Mom and Amy and Heinous and... Can you imagine having a blog where you constantly get well over 30 comments on each post? *** I so admire the bloggers who reply to every comment. I try, I really do. But from the time I approve a comment to the time that I click back to my own blog so I can reply to the comments... I sometimes get distracted. *** And the whole "Blogs of Note" thing that blogger does. I've found some great blogs that way- like Tangobaby. How cool to become a Blog of Note, recognized by someone at Blogger. I have dreams of someone being paid to sit and read through blog after blog after blog and find great ones, unique ones, interesting ones. Is it sad to admit that I lust after being a Blog of Note?? *** I also wonder about those popular blogs and how it feels to get negative comments. I've seen it happen and I've read bloggers write about getting a negative nellie popping up so they have to review comments first. I review comments only so I know I've got comments to read! Does getting negative or inappropriate comments mean you've "made it?" *** Guess that's enough of my blog-dom for now!

Being of the ilk of wildly popular and in-demand Bloggers you mention, I have found the route to copious comments is to write them oneself.

LOL. I just totally cracked myself up.

But seriously, Liz... have you ever noticed that the really special blogs usually have some kind of niche area of interest? I think it's really hard to just blog willy nilly without a platform and get a lot of attention. The blogs with "hooks" are the ones that get the biggest audience. Generally speaking, blogging about family and such is fun, but in the general context of what people want, you have to be irreverent, comedic, religious, political, or have some other schtick that sets you apart.

I love your blog and if you ask me, you get a whole lot of attention. I would be honored just to get half the traffic YOU get. On second thought, my blog gets me in trouble for being too morose sometimes... but it's great therapy!

I'm also amazed when some people have so many comments and followers. I do love my little following though!
and Alix? Your blog is NOT morose! I love reading your blog! I just love the wit so many of you have!

Thank you for the mention. Blogging is a great community. The relationships are real and if you keep your blog honest and find people you like, you'll get those 30 comments and more.

I don't moderate anything. I've had maybe one negative comment but you just laugh those off. All the trolls are looking for is to get you going. If they get no satisfaction, they go away.

I remember when Dad Gone Mad suggested that folks go out and post on other blogs as a sign of goodness and such in these hard times. And it did feel like a rock star had stopped by when he swung in and left a comment...

And now Heinous is here! Yahoo! And a follower!

I'm real. And honest. You'll find that out. And you are spot on. Because that is what draws me to the blogs I follow- honesty, openness, sense of humor.

Alix- I've always wondered what my hook could be. But then I came to realize that I'm a diarist, a journaling blogger. I just have randomness to share. Someone somewhere might see my life as different but I see it as relatively mundane (which is how I love it). So for now... I'll stick with just sharing my little bits of Lizdom and making friends along the way!

You should feel like a rock-star because your blog is awesome! I reach so many brain blocks and can't understand why people stop by mine, but I'm glad they do! All 20 of them! Woo hoo!

As it should be, Liz, as it should be.

I like you and your blog just the way you are.

I don't individually respond to every comment I get, but I love each and every one of them. This bloggy world continues to amaze and delight me. I think there's room for all of us.

I like Pioneer Woman, too.

I think you would like dooce.com. Here was today's entry - http://www.dooce.com/2009/01/20/second-second-trimester

She is normally wittier than that, but it is a good entry.
